Immediately following the tragic events of March 11, 2011, Supermicro worked with Japan's #1 search provider and data centers to spec and donate high-efficiency computing technologies for a site dedicated to connecting the Japanese community with live status updates. The Shinsai site has since grown to a central portal for news and community building activities supporting charity and relief efforts for disaster victims.
As the event had direct impact on power consumption, Supermicro built an energy-efficient server solution optimized for the Shinsai portal project. Supermicro donated high-efficiency (93%+) Gold Level SuperServer® systems with Intel® low-power Xeon® Processor L5520s to support the project. To date, this power conserving platform has served hundreds of thousands of transactions per day, helped raise more than 1.4B yen and run on a fraction of the power required for typical desktop workstations.
